Clean Energy

We promote access to affordable, renewable energy solutions for underserved communities, enhancing health, education, and economic outcomes while protecting the environment.

How we do it

Access to reliable and affordable energy remains uneven across Kenya, particularly in off-grid and underserved communities. While national electrification rates have improved to over 75%, many households still rely on costly and harmful energy sources such as kerosene and charcoal.

MFF advocates for inclusive access to clean energy by partnering with solar service providers and donors to deliver affordable, high-quality solutions. Through flexible financing models such as pay-as-you-go systems, households can adopt solar technologies without high upfront costs. This not only improves quality of life through better lighting, education, and productivity, but also contributes to climate change mitigation and sustainable development.

Megawatt Family foundation has a robust scholarship program, where needy and bright students receive education subsidies at all learning levels. This program provided partial and full scholarships to bright students in Secondary Schools, TVET institutions, colleges and universities. These subsidies are in the form of direct tuition fee payment, Shopping for books, menstrual health products and other necessities for those in boarding institutions. We have established a system of monitoring and tracking our beneficiaries through our database to document impact and establish ways of beneficiaries giving back to the foundation to support other needy cases.

Our training component will focus on mentorship, coaching and skills development. The foundation will have programs for mentoring youth and recent graduates to prepare them to transition into the world of work. Soft skills such as CV/Resume writing, job applications, interview preparation and responding to interview questions are skills that put most graduates at a disadvantage. The foundation, through its corporate partners, will provide job coaching, career guidance, mentorship, and internship opportunities to provide job seekers with hands on skills that are essential for formal employment. Additionally, we will work with relevant partners to provide career guidance on university courses entry points and subject combinations to ensure young people are able to pursue their dreams and careers.
3
Megawatt Family Foundation will support young people with guidance on how to apply for study programs and scholarships abroad and/or funded fellowships to enhance their competitiveness in the global markets. We will seek partnerships with academic institutions and education partners abroad to consider our beneficiaries for scholarships, student exchanges, symposia and other related events to provide exposure opportunities to Kenyan students.
